Meet actress Fallon Goodson. A graduate of SMU with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, Goodson’s star is on the rise in Hollywood. In 2011, she made her feature film debut in the comedy L!fe Happens opposite Kate Bosworth, Krysten Ritter and Rachel Bilson. Now, she’s walking the SXSW red carpet at the world premiere of Maladies, also starring Catherine Keener (who will be in attendance) and James Franco.

As part of the Visions portion of the film fest, the SXSW schedule describes the film as an idiosyncratic drama. I describe it as a film way too smart for me. It’s wonderfully acted, beautifully shot and well scripted, but it’s definitely over my head. Considering I spend most of my nights watching the CW and ABC Family, that’s understandable. I do like that the storyline seems to parallel James Franco’s life in a way. The film description goes on to say, “James’s grasp on reality remains tenuous at best as he attempts to redefine himself creatively through his new passion.” Would that new passion be soap acting? Nope. Franco’s character has left acting to be a writer. Perhaps you can understand, though, why it reminded me of Franco in the flesh.

Back to our new pal, Fallon Goodson. The girls got skills; that’s for sure. I mean, if you can share screen time with Franco, Keener and David Strathairn while still keeping the focus on you, you are most definitely doing something right. Franco must think so too as two of his upcoming directing projects feature Goodson (Black Dog, Red Dog and Child of God).

We asked the SMU alum to reminisce on her time in Texas and answer our ten totally Texan questions.

#1 – What is your favorite movie and/or TV show shot in Texas?

Bottle Rocket! They have scenes in Highland Park Pharmacy where I would have grilled pimento cheese sandwiches with my sorority sisters. They also make the soda old fashioned and fresh! The movie makes me nostalgic.

#2 – Who is your favorite Texas musician?

Vanilla Ice! Too cold, too cold. Also love Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Miranda Lambert…. And lets just go ahead and include anyone who sings country from Texas. I love country music!

#3 – What actor would you classify as “totally Texan?”

Tommy Lee Jones.

#4 – Answer one of the following and tell us why: Cowboys or Texans? Spurs or Mavs? Astros or Rangers?

Cowboys, Mavs and Rangers. I went to SMU and love Dallas teams!

#5 – What is your favorite Texas food item?

The Bob Armstrong queso at Matitos in Dallas. It’s so addicting, I can’t even! And Tex-Mex in general.

#6 – If you didn’t work in film, what would you be doing?

Charity work with a hospital. I love keeping people company when they are going through a rough time. I’m kind of like the hospital whisperer. I am always game to visit friends and family who need some distraction.

#7 – Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Vivien Leigh.

#8 – What’s your theme song?

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger (Stronger by Kelly Clarkson).

#9 – What projects will you be working on in 2013?

Some exciting things! I’m currently developing a television series and am attached to a handful of scripts. I can’t wait to see what role I will be able to tackle next! Of course, by the Hollywood code I’m not allowed to answer which ones until they are announced. icon wink Fallon Goodson talks Texas, Vanilla Ice and Maladies SXSW premiere

Being back in Texas! I love Texans and being in the South in general.
