Well, we knew it was just a matter of time before the Thai Noodle House would have to close its doors after owner Eddie Nimibutr posted on Facebook that he didn’t “give a damn” about a bunch of white kids killed in Newton Connecticut.
A social media firestorm came down on Nimibutr after he posted the comment the same day of the Newton shooting.
Nimibutr has been receiving death threats and loyal customers vanished after the comment began making the rounds.
It’s a shame because it was a good restaurant and it also provided jobs for a number of employees who had nothing to do with it. The long knives came out on social media and they carved Eddie up like a smoked brisket.
The backlash, while not unexpected, was somewhat abusive as well. A Facebook page was set up in protest and it called for Eddie to apologize.
He did. But the damage was already done. No spin surgeon could fix his public relations quagmire. Death threats started coming in and cars started driving by his house. That’s a little over the top for a stupid comment on Facebook, but Eddie has no one to blame but himself.
If you haven’t seen the comments, here is what Nimibutr posted on Facebook hours after the shooting:
I am failing to give a damn about the CT shooting. I don’t care if a bunch of white kids got killed.
F**k post racial bullshit. When kids from minority groups get shot nobody cares. When Israel launched missles at Gaza, everybody was too busy jerking off.
Why should I care about people who don’t give a damn about me? Personal responsibility , right?
Get back to lavish X-Mas shopping and believing in some false superstitions. Corporations don’t want you to stop spendig money on things you don’t goddamn need.
Nimibutr began walking back the comments on Tuesday.
“It was a bad response, I shouldn’t of used those words,” Nimibutr said.
No kidding.
With one Facebook post, Nimibutr destroyed his business (and a popular one), his income and his employee’s jobs.
Nimibutr spoke to KEYE TV on Tuesday. Watch the interview here.
