Bandera County horse’s teeth mutilated with a power drill

Hill Country veterinarian Samantha Mixon is trying to get justice for a horse named Cowboy. Cowboy is a 20-year-old horse that has endured years of suffering after a man calling himself an “Equine Dentist”drilled the phrase “Suck It” in the horse’s teeth with a power drill.

Mixon learned of the mutilation back in April and went to the Bandera County Sheriff’s office and filed a report.

Cowboy is a former trail horse at the Running R Ranch in Bandera County. Mixon suspects that the mutilation happened two years ago. That will make it difficult for investigators to bring charges against anyone.

Whoever carved Cowboy’s teeth used a power tool and drilled so deeply into his teeth that raw nerves are exposed, causing him excruciating pain. Ranch hands had noticed a change in Cowboy’s behavior over the past years, but never knew why.

Mixon told the Bandera County Courier:

A person or people used this horse as a living graffiti wall. I want them held accountable, Cowboy in protective custody and no unsuspecting rider injured. This was a gentle trail horse that did nothing more than serve people for years and years. He didn’t deserve this cruelty. I know I may never win, but if I don’t stand up for what’s right, evil wins. And what happened to Cowboy was evil.

Cowboy has since been traded and is currently for sale. Dr. Mixon’s wants to buy Cowboy and take whatever medical steps are necessary to help him at her own expense. You can donate to at “Save Cowboy Fund.”
